American Institute of Biological Science (AIBS): The organization offers information about graduate programs, internships, and career choices to biology students. Members explore the natural world through field trips and nature hikes in the surrounding areas, serve as science fair judges and help to coordinate science programs for the Girl Scouts' annual science night.
Beta Mu Beta: Students interested in biochemistry and molecular biology explore research opportunities, career options and graduate programs. Members organize seminars with Wittenberg alumni and tours of industries that use biochemistry or molecular biology. Informal meetings provide a relaxed setting for students to gather and prompt discussing of ethical issues and the depiction of science in the media.
Caving Clue (Wittenberg University Speleological Society): Students in this organization study cave ecology, have opportunities to join numerous expeditions to wild caves and to create their own research projects. Members routinely visit wild caves in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio such as Carter Caves Sate Park, Sloan's Valley, Mammoth Cave, Hocking Hills and Sullivan's Cave. While there, students tent camp, rappel inside and outside the cave system, and explore and survey underground. The club also published a journal of cave science, Pholeos, which has about 55 subscribers around the world.
Conservation Club: This is a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting interest in environmental stewardship and fostering the education of the University and the public. Activities include creating service projects for the Wittenberg community, sponsoring an Earth Day Festival, bringing speakers to campus, promoting ways to conserve, and focusing attention on environmental issues.
Pre-Health Professions Club: Students in this group are focused on attaining advanced degrees in a health field. This group has adopted a local nursing home and annually sponsors projects such as Swim for Diabetes and Relay for Life. Members also participate in the Smile program - a big brother/sister type of letter writing campaign for children hospitalized with cancer. The club has brought the Red Cross to campus to certify members in CPR and First Aid. Students administer full-length practice MCAT'S
Tri-Beta: This honor society for biology students seeks to promote scholarship and research in the biological sciences. Students are selected for this biology honorary based on biology credits completed and grade point average. Members tutor underclassmen, discuss their ongoing research endeavors, and cosponsor a number of events with the Department of Biology.
