• You are to obtain a scholarly article that uses a theory as the basis for a study of nonverbal communication. Read the article, making sure you fully understand it, and address the paper assignment described below. The theory may be one that we have covered in this or any Communication course; the study may be related to any aspect of nonverbal communication.
• This analysis paper should be 3-4 pages long and must adhere to APA format guidelines, including proper citations for any sources cited in the paper.  
• This paper is due on Monday, September 22 and is worth 100 points.

IMPORTANT NOTE: None of the articles used for the theory-related Research Article Discussions may be used for this assignment by any student. Also, if you presented your Research Article Discussion on one of the theories, you must select an article that deals with a different theory.

In a well-organized paper, discuss:

• What is the main idea behind the theory, and what are the major variables and the relationships between them, as stated in this theory?
• How did the study you found use this theory?  (e.g., was it used as the basis for a hypothesis that led to a study to test that hypothesis?)  Talk about how the theory guided their approach.
• Given what you now know about the theory and one study that used it, formulate a hypothesis based on one of the predictions implied by this theory and describe a study you could conduct in order to test your hypothesis.  This study must be centrally related to nonverbal communication.
• Discuss the value of such research, if it were to be conducted, both in terms of contributions to our scholarly understanding of the theory as well as practical applications. We know that theory is the basis for research, which in turn can further clarify/improve the theory – talk about this relationship as you address this last part of the assignment.

Your 3-4 page Analysis Paper must adhere to APA format guidelines.  It should follow good paper format, with a separate introduction, well-organized body, and brief conclusion.

Be sure you have read and understood the theory and the scholarly journal article you have selected before attempting to write this Analysis Paper. 

Avoid use of direct quotations unless they are short and absolutely necessary.  The vast majority of this Analysis Paper should be in your own words so I can be sure you have understood what you’ve read and what you’ve written.
