2008 Summer Field Study in Japan
February 15                                                                    Field Study Application and $300 deposit due (Office of International Education)
April                                                                                3 mandatory program meetings for paperwork and pre-departure orientation
Wednesday, May 14                                                     Leave U.S. (Northwest Airlines: Detroit to Tokyo flight)
Thursday, May 15                                                          Arrive at Narita Airport, Tokyo; chartered bus to National Youth Center
Friday, May 16                                                               Orientation at NYC, class field trip, and dinner together (sukuyaki in Ueno)
Saturday, May 17                                                          Sanja Matsuri in Tokyo (and meet Conversation Partner) or trip to Kamakura
Sunday, May 18                                                             Sanja Matsuri in Tokyo (and meet Conversation Partner) or trip to Kamakura
Monday, May 19 - Friday, May 23                               Classes: Intercultural Communication (9:00-11:00) and Language (11:15-11:45)
                                                                                        Afternoon field trips include visiting Tokyo Tower, a museum, and a shrine
                                                                                        We will meet for dinner together as a class twice this week.
Saturday, May 24 - Sunday, May 25                           Time for personal travel and exploration
Monday, May 26 - Friday, May 30                               Classes: Intercultural Communication (9:00-11:00) and Language (11:15-11:45)
                                                                                        Afternoon field trips include visiting a temple, meeting host family, etc.
                                                                                        We will meet for dinner together as a class twice this week.
Saturday May 31 - Tuesday, June 3                            Long weekend for personal travel and exploration
Wednesday, June 4 - Friday, June 6                          Classes: Intercultural Communication (9:00-11:00) and Language (11:15-11:45)
                                                                                        Afternoon field trips may include visiting a museum, etc.
                                                                                        We will meet for dinner together as a class once during this shortened week.
Saturday, June 7 - Sunday, June 8                              Home stay with host family (contingent on availability of hosts)
Monday, June 9 - Thursday, June 12                          Classes: Intercultural Communication (9:00-11:00) and Language (11:15-11:45)
                                                                                        Afternoon field trips may include visiting a workplace, Yasukuni Shrine, etc.
                                                                                        We will meet for dinner together as a class once.
Friday, June 13 - Sunday, June 15                              Weekend in Kyoto, including Friday performance at Gion Corner and dinner together
Monday, June 16                                                           Last day of classes, dinner together, and class trip to Nijo Castle
Tuesday, June 17                                                          Leave for U.S. (or continue traveling, if desired)
