Introductory survey of the civilizations of China, Japan and Korea. Primarily designed for the student with no background knowledge of East Asia, this course examines the broad themes that shape these countries. The course includes a focus on history and geography, and on the distinctive aspects of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese cultures manifested in performing and fine arts, literature, social organization, and economic development.
