WS100L
Introduction to Women's Studies
(Broh SP08)

This course introduces students to the social, political, and economic forces that influence gendered ways of being, with a particular focus on women’s lives.  Throughout the course, students will be challenged to reflect critically on and ask new questions about the complexities of lived experience in the United States and globally.  The course pays particular attention to the ways with which race and class influence gendered experiences.   Importantly, students are encouraged to reflect on how social forces influence their own personal experiences as well as creating similarities and differences with the experiences of other women and men in their local communities and throughout the world.  By the end of the course, engaged students will have a fundamental understanding of sex and gender, feminist theories and concepts, historical trends and experiences, and forms of gendered inequality.  This course is writing intensive.
