Although many are unaware curriculum development grants are available to faculty for course development and research without having applied for or receiving a travel grant In addition, faculty awarded travel grants can apply for the curriculum development grants. Some examples of curriculum development grants are enrollment in EAS courses (such as Chinese or Japanese language, or graduate courses related to their teaching responsibilities at Wittenberg) and stipends for Asia-focused course development.
Travel and curriculum development grant recipients are selected in consultation with the Provost by the Freeman Advisory Committee (FAC). Proposals are evaluated on the basis of grantee commitment to incorporating Asian content into their teaching and to enriching Wittenberg's EAS Program, particularly in creating access points to Asian studies at multiple levels in the curriculum. Strong preference is given to proposals that create, revise, or add segments to courses in disciplines (art, education, music, and management) and regional areas (Tibet, Mongolia, Korea) where our curriculum is relatively weak.
