Suggested Timeline of Program Requirements
for
an Education Major

Note: A major in education is required for the following areas of licensure:

• Early Childhood (P-3)

• Middle Childhood (4-9)

• Dual licensure in Early Childhood (P-3) & Intervention Specialist (K-12)

Freshman Year

• Enroll in entry-level courses.

• Pick up advising sheet and Teacher Education Handbook. (Blair 204).

• Seek out Education Department adviser. Discuss career goals & prepare 4-yr plan.

• Declare education major. 

Sophomore Year

• Complete entry-level courses.

• Apply for admission to the teacher education program.

Junior Year

• Enroll in methodology courses.

• Complete application and interview procedure (middle of Spring Semester) for permission to student teach.

Senior Year

• Complete methodology courses.

• Make arrangements to take State Board of Education Tests (PRAXIS).

• Prepare teacher placement file.

• Complete application for licensure.

• Complete student teaching (Spring Semester).

Questions about requirements for graduation or teacher licensure should be addressed to your Education Department advisor. If your advisor is unavailable, check with the Chairperson of the Education Department or with Dr. Novak, Director of Teacher Licensure Office in 207 Blair.
