Robert Leigh Davis teaches courses in American Literature. A University Fellow at Berkeley and winner of Berkeley’s Graduate Essay Prize, Davis has published essays on John Milton, William Carlos Williams, Walt Whitman, Thomas Merton, writing pedagogy, and literature and medicine. Davis has directed Wittenberg’s first-year seminar program, the WittSems, as well as the University’s writing across the curriculum program. In 1996, Davis received the Omicron Delta Kappa Award for outstanding teaching by a faculty member who has been on the faculty five or fewer years. In 2005, he received the Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching, the highest recognition Wittenberg bestows on its faculty. He has twice been selected as an honorary Wittenberg alumnus. His book on Walt Whitman's Civil War writings, Whitman and the Romance of Medicine, is published by the University of California Press.
