Ralph D. Lenz, Associate Professor and Chair of Geography teaches urban geography and urban studies, Third World regions, human ecology, climatology, and map and air photo analysis. His early research was in point pattern analysis; more recently he has studied Third World urban spatial patterns. Among his publications are several in Geographical Analysis, Social Science and Medicine, and Metropolitan Crime Patterns. His most recent research and paper presentations at professional meetings have considered the journey to work in Jakarta, Indonesia, as well as tourism in Vietnam. He accompanied Fulbright-Hays groups studying regional development in India in 1978 and urbanization and development in Zimbabwe and Malawi in 1991. He has frequently visited Southeast Asia, where in 1985 he directed a survey of urban squatter areas in Jakarta. His B.A. is from Concordia College, his M.A. from Eastern Michigan University, and his Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He joined the Wittenberg faculty in 1976.
