Service Learning
There are numerous community service experiences students can participate in during their years at Wittenberg. In addition, first-year students will have the option to participate in a service-learning course where they can engage in meaningful and purposeful ways of connecting the concepts and theories of social ethics that they learn in the classroom with the practical, hands-on learning of “real life” experience.
This program
- engages students in dialogue regarding some social justice issues, especially as they relate to educational inequities in the high school
- engages students in intentional reflection by helping them develop the ability to write about the challenges and opportunities in the promotion of social justice
- teaches students to communicate compassionately with people from a variety of social and/or cultural backgrounds
- challenges students to explain their core values and commitment including an explanation of the ways they hope to engage the world in the future
