The Five Themes of the FYE Support Series
redline

Academic Engagement and Exploration:  These sessions aim to help students engage academically in order to succeed at Wittenberg and beyond.  Sessions under this theme will address academic success strategies, academic expectations, and defining academic interests and goals.

Life Skills:  The World Health Organization has defined life skills as “the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life”.  These sessions would help students in building self-confidence and to make them more independent and to make decisions effectively.  They would help in improving their interpersonal skills and to establish healthy relationships in life.

Health and Wellness:  These sessions aim to address choices students make that put their health and wellness at risk and to inform students on ways to weave wellness activities and practices into their daily routines.  Sessions under this theme will provide students with the strategies needed to live a healthy and balanced life at Wittenberg and beyond.

Living in a Diverse and Global Society:  Learning to live in a diverse community is an essential part of the Wittenberg experience.  This theme explores what it means to work and live with people from differing backgrounds.  The sessions aim to help students gain an understanding of diversity and increase their global and local awareness.

Leadership Development and Civic Engagement:  These sessions aim to encourage students to become involved on campus and in the community and to provide the skills and resources necessary to develop leadership skills.  Sessions topics could include but are not limited to: developing leadership skills, understanding leadership styles, leadership opportunities at Wittenberg, understanding current issues in the community, and the value of community service.
