Research
A student should be able to use the library to acquire information and to
explore ideas and should understand the role of technology in the collection,
analysis, and dissemination of information.
We live in the information age. Wittenberg faculty are actively involved in
research and in teaching research techniques to students. Students learn
research techniques that enable them to manage the vast wealth of information
available today.

Foreign Language
A student should achieve the degree of competence in a foreign language
necessary to encounter another culture on its own terms and to enhance the
understanding of the structure of language itself.
To understand today's world, its politics, and its economy, and to be
competitive in a global marketplace, we need knowledge of the world's
cultures. Wittenberg provides opportunities for students to acquire language
and cross-cultural skills in the following languages: Chinese, French,
German, Classical Greek, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish. Many of
our students build on this foundation by studying abroad for a semester or a
year.

Speaking
A student should be able to speak effectively within and before groups.
As citizens of a democracy, we need to be able to explain our views in the
public forum. We also need to hone our speaking skills so that we can
function effectively as representatives of the institutions in which we
participate as part of our professional and civic life.

Mathematics
A student should achieve a level of competency in mathematics that provides
the necessary foundation for subsequent college learning and should also
strengthen problem-solving and reasoning skills through continued use.
Whether preparing for a career that requires knowledge of mathematics or
preparing to make informed decisions about government and public policy based
on scientific and numerical data, we must be prepared to sort through
mathematical and statistical data and argumentation to function responsibly
in today's society. At Wittenberg, we not only help provide you with a solid
foundation in mathematical reasoning, we help you see how mathematical
reasoning gives you a powerful tool for solving real-world problems.

Computing
A student should be able to use a computer to help perform a variety of
learning activities and should understand the power and limits of computing.
We are committed to helping students master the technologies and sciences
that help us to understand the world in which we live. Computing is
integrated into classes and majors across the curriculum.
