Andrew Scholl is the latest addition to the Department of Geography, starting in 2007.  He is a biogeographer  (by training and obsession) and teaches courses in environmental geography, biogeography, and Cultural Geography.  He holds a B.A. (Political Science) and B.S. (Biology) from Baldwin-Wallace College, a M.S. (Geography) from Penn State University, and is currently an A.B.D. (Geography) at Penn State.  He has traveled extensively around the world and has lived for a year in both India and South Africa.  In addition, he recently spent several years working with resource managers in Yosemite National Park, studying the old-growth forests.  He is excited about sharing his international experiences with students and also creating opportunities for students to gain hands on experience with field research techniques.

Andrew’s recent research focuses on studying vegetation dynamics of old-growth forests in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  Specifically, he studies the role of climatic variation on fire regimes, and the impact of management decisions (especially fire suppression) on forest regeneration, fire regimes, and carbon sequestration.
