Professor and Co-Chair of the
Department of Geology, is currently co-authoring the five-volume
Handbook of Mineralogy, a comprehensive compilation and critical review
of the physical and chemical properties and the origins of the 3,400
known mineral species. Bladh teaches mineralogy, physical geology, and
economic geology and tutors students in the geologic applications of
X-ray analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and lapidary preparation.
A frequent judge and exhibitor at regional mineral shows, he has published
in journals such as American Mineralogist, Economic Geology, and Rocks
and Minerals and lectures on mineralogy to regional mineral societies.
He received his B.A. from Wittenberg University and his M.S.
and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Sharing an appointment
at Wittenberg with his wife, Katherine Laing Bladh, he joined the faculty
in 1978.
