Dr. Linda Arena, Professor and Chairperson of Health, Fitness, and Sport, teaches Coaching
Young Athletes, Women in Sport, Fitness Programs for Women, Indoor Hockey, and
several other performance classes. Arena's areas of expertise include sport pedagogy,
coaching theory, applied behavioral analysis, and field hockey. She served as the
Wittenberg Women's Athletic Director for ten years, as well as the field hockey coach
until 1998. Coach Arena's teams were 162-89, winning several conference titles, as
well as making three NCAA national championship appearances.
Dr. Arena has published field hockey articles in the USA, Italy, and Australia. She served as Editor of
The Eagle,
Crosse Checks, and the first USFHA Manual for Coaches. A member of both the NCAA Field Hockey and NCAA Softball Committees,
she chaired Division III National championships in both sports. Arena served as the
President of the Wittenberg Chapter of the AAUP, Chairperson for the Midwest
AAHPERD Division of Sports and Athletics, and member of the Board of Trustees of
the Ohio NOW Education and Legal Fund. She received her B.S. and M.S. from New
York University College at Brockport, where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame
in 1986, and her Ph.D. at The Ohio State University. Dr. Arena joined the Wittenberg
faculty in 1982.
