Class of 1963

HERBERT, (SWANSON) SANDRA L.

"I am still teaching history at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County.  My specialty is history of science
          which started at Wittenberg.

I had a delightful visit to Wittenberg a couple years ago-- got to see Peter Celms and Charles Chatfield.  We
traded teaching stories.  Hello to all!"

MOELLER, DAVID E.

"My son, Matthew David, graduated from Miami University in December 1996.

I have sustained my interest in history by reading popular history, membership in a history book club and watching
          the history channel.

I have been in insurance claim work since graduation and will help anyone that I can."

PIEFFER, LAYNE B.

"I continue to work as a historian for the Air Force Material Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, near Dayton. As a working historian involved in creating a permanent record for future use, and in using that record, I deal with contemporary events and developments as history in the making.  I also consume history in all varieties wherever I find it.

Unfortunately, the Air Force history program, like the rest of DOD, is downsizing, and opportunities are virtually nonexistent for "outsiders."  An MA is the minimum credential; half of current Air Force historians have PhDs.    On the bright side, there is a large demographic bulge of historians in their 50's who will retire within 5-10 years."

STAUFFER, DR. TOM M.

"I am the President of Golden Gate University (San Francisco).  Chair of the San Francisco Higher Education Consortium and of the Challenger Center for Space Science Education.

Am currently writing two local histories of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and Golden Gate University.  Also undertaking archival project for the San Francisco YMCA."

TURNER, (MILLER) BARBARA J.

"Retired from Troy City Schools in 1996.  Began my teaching career as a high school social studies teacher.
When our daughter was born in 1966, I quit.  When it was time to go back there were no social studies jobs.
Recertified for elementary.  Spent last 14 years teaching in 4th grade.  Loved teaching Ohio history!  Retired with
Master's plus 30 hours.  Master's in Ed-interdisciplinary studies from University of Dayton.

Being active campers, we enjoy visiting historical sites.  We spent six weeks in Texas this winter.  We visited lots
of sites connected with Texas's independence as well as Johnson and Nimitz sites.  Back home by way of
Natchez and the Trace.  Most of my reading is historical fiction, especially Civil War and settling of the West
periods.  Love the History channel.  History, the love of, has always been important to me, a part of my life."
