BARTOS, EMIL
"I am a trained intentional interim minister. Receive much enjoyment working in this field. Invited to concelebrate
episcopal high mass of Pentecost in Kankakee, IL, 31 May 1998.I have continued to sustain my interest in history by my recent reading of Gilbert Morris’s 'House of Winslow' series, watching historical programs on video/tv, and visiting historic sites around the country."
BUEHLER, DAVE AND JANET (PLAISTED)
"Our home address is unchanged, but our life has been changing immensely. Janet now teaches English at Dartmouth H.S. and is the editorial advisor (chronicler) of the school newspaper. History works! David is currently Pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran in Providence in a bustling downtown area, but would like to do more teaching. (This year he will also be teaching a Philosophy course at Providence College, but he is also interested in working with inner city kids.) Our son Jake will graduate from Wesleyan (B.A., English) and aspires to move to California in July where he plans to take the media world by storm. Janet has most of her credits for a second MA in writing from Northeastern, but has deferred that for now.PARKER, GEORGE L.Likewise David is “abd” for a PhD in Theological Ethics from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana. We ferment our historical juices with distillations from the www plus lotsa “The American Experience” on WGBH, Boston. Our advice to new grads is to definitely give teaching a try, even if only for a few years, and then to be sure you are really doing what fulfills you. Also, know that as your personality grows, your interests may shift and you should always keep more than one option in view. David has a wonderful position as a hospital chaplain but set it aside during a hospital “downsizing.” Janet had a similar experience in her private school teaching position. But the river of life goes on! Like Wallace and Gromit, we’re happy with a cup of tea! We have survived David’s stroke, job changes, and we look forward to the sabbatical times looming ahead.
This summer we’re off to Nantucket in August and David will be doing some camp ministry as well. We both feel our years in Springfield gave us a solid education and a thirst for knowledge that won’t quit. This week Janet led her English students on a cross-town hike to visit a new Holocaust Memorial in New Bedford. David spoke on the Ethics of Personhood (Artificial Intelligence, Animal Rights, etc.) at a local prep school after attending a course at MIT this Spring. If you’re near Boston or Providence, do give us a jingle."
"As our son graduates from high school, I have lost my role as the primary parent for a dependent child at home. To fill this expected void, I have taken up building a model wooden boat, gardening and working with a neighborhood group in attempting to save and renovate a historic structure. I was recognized by the Mayor with “Unsung Hero” award for my legal representation of non-profit groups in community.History interest is sustained by viewing contemporary events, my personal experiences and books and articles I read from the perspective of one trained in history, in historiography."

Special Events: Hot air balloon ride to be scheduled soon."Now’s the payoff. The kids are in college and I get to read--on line and hard copy. Thank goodness for public libraries and inter-library loan. I wonder, will the conservatives call for vouchers for libraries?
History’s an important part of the mix. But it’s The History and Geography of Human Genes and House Histories: a Guide to Tracing the Genealogy of Your Home -- never battles or biographies.
By the way, has anyone heard whether they have the results of the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemmings DNA tests yet? And did anyone catch “Beyond Affliction, the Disability History Project” on NRP? Excerpts are on their web page (www.npr.org.) and it’s stunning. If you haven’t done your family history yet, why wait? Older family members are dying and the trail’s getting cold."
PAYNE, PATRICIA E.
"I attended the annual history seminar organized by the Centers for Archival Collections and Great Lakes Research at Bowling Green State University. Topics focus on local and Ohio historical sites and events and 'history makers.' Speakers have included Allan W. Eckert and David C. Skaggs."HOME
