How to Peeve a Prof
There are countless ways, of course!
When you get down to it,
most of the things that peeve profs are symptoms of one of the following:
- Failing to take responsibility for your own education.
- Expecting the prof to do the learning for you.
- Being inconsiderate of others' time and efforts.
Below are some of my personal favorites.
These are also fabulous techniques for doing poorly in any class.
See how many you're prone to,
and consider what each reflects about you as a student and as a person.
- Be late for class.
- Whine.
- Miss class.
- Miss class, and don't get notes from anyone.
- Miss class, don't get notes from anyone, show up in the prof's office
and ask "What did I miss?" or
"Did I miss anything important?"
- Blow off the homework.
- Blow off the homework, and expect to learn by simply watching the prof
work problems on the board.
- Try to turn in late assignments.
- Check e-mail or surf the web during class sessions.
- Blame somebody else if you're not awake, alert, prepared, and engaged in class.
- Demand that a prof write a make-up exam especially for you.
- Insist that you must take the final exam at a different time.
- Write down only what the prof writes on the board.
- Give the prof no feedback in class or during office hours.
- Wait until the day before an exam to come in with questions.
- Ask The Question.
- Ignore any information the prof gives you
(like all the information on this web resource),
and constantly pester the prof with questions that he/she has already
taken the time to answer for you.
Most of these were suggested to me by students.
Feel free to
suggest peeves
for me to add to this list.
