WittCAM project applies marketing concepts to faith.

redline

October 02 , 2007

Springfield, OH—During their fall 2007 WittCAM project, Tyler MacDonald, Kelly Parsons, and Brian Schubert will help a Springfield church with their marketing. One focus of the project will explore ways to attract the estimated 108,000 people in greater Clark County who currently do not have a church home. They will also work to increase the conversion of first-time visitors to more involved members of the church. MacDonald, Parsons, and Schubert will be creating a SWOT, and both positioning and promotional analyses of the church. They will be tracking promotional and branding effectiveness, doing an environmental scan to find the best opportunities for attracting non-church-affiliated residents of the area, and conducting a segmentation study of attendees of various church services and programs.  The team's work will also influence training programs to be used in outreach programs. The ultimate deliverable will be a marketing plan and supporting materials to increase both the number and the level of involvement of the church’s membership.

Tyler MacDonald ’08 is a management major with a marketing concentration from Dublin, OH. Currently, MacDonald works as a barista at the campus coffee shop. He has also worked as a student manager for Wittenberg dining services and has learned extensive customer service and sales skills in his past four years working for Express. This past summer, he interned with Express working on the visual floor set team for the company’s premier stores at Tuttle and Easton malls in Columbus, OH. During his time at Wittenberg, MacDonald has been involved in many campus activities including several theater and dance productions and singing in the male a cappella choir, The Wittmen Crew. MacDonald has received various awards for academic achievement, including a scholarship from the Freeman grant for outstanding academic performance. MacDonald enjoys going to the gym, spending time with his family and friends, and camping. After Wittenberg, he will pursue a law degree at Capital University.

Kelly Parsons ‘08, from Cincinnati, Ohio, is a senior management major at Wittenberg University.  She is a member of Tau Pi Phi, the Wittenberg chapter of the national honor society for business and economics. She has achieved the academic honor of Dean’s List for three semesters. Parsons has worked in food and beverage sales for the past seven years. She has experience working with a faith-based organization due to 10 years of membership at Epiphany United Methodist Church. She plans to pursue a career in marketing, advertising, or human resources.

Brian Schubert ’09 is a junior Management major at Wittenberg University from Norwalk, Ohio. Currently interning at Community Mercy Health Partners in the Corporate Responsibility department, he has worked on a department staffing analysis and a regional disaster recovery plan. At Wittenberg, Schubert works with the Community Service and Admissions departments and has also worked for Residence Life. Schubert serves as chair of the Honor Council, president of College Republicans, is active in PrimeTime (a Campus Crusade for Christ affiliate), and serves on a Wittenberg strategic plan taskforce dealing with university-community engagement. His future aspirations include working for a non-profit that helps other non-profits with management or working for a branding firm.
