February 26, 2009

Springfield, OH – On April 7, at its annual scholarship awards dinner held at the Springfield Country Club, management major Katie Barsan ’09 was recognized for her scholarship and business experience.

Barsan from Silver Lake, Ohio, received the Pauline Burnett Award for excellence in management.  The Pauline Burnett Award, established in 1988, honors a charter member of the Tau Gamma Chapter (Wittenberg University) of Chi Omega who worked for years as the Assistant Manager of the Springfield Country Club; long before women managers were easily accepted. Each year’s recipient must have credible scholarship and excel in both business-related campus activities and in her employment experiences.

Katie Barsan is a senior management major with a concentration in finance, and Spanish minor from Silver Lake, OH.  Barsan is currently the student assistant to management professor Pamela Schindler and interned at Charles Schwab Corporate and Retirement Services the past two summers.  Throughout her time at Wittenberg, Barsan has held several leadership positions such as Student Senate Treasurer and Chi Omega Public Relations Chair.  Barsan is also a member of the Tau Pi Phi honorary, Order of Omega Greek leadership honorary, Gamma Sigma Alpha Greek scholastic honorary, and has served as an Orientation Assistant the past two summers.  Earlier this spring she received the Denise L. Calvert Leadership Award from the management department.  In her spare time, Barsan enjoys swimming, skiing, and spending time with her friends and family. Following graduation, Barsan plans on pursuing a career in finance.
