Ashley Reed '06 and Prof. Schindler meet with visiting high schools counselors
redline

April 3, 2006

Springfield, OH-When 51 high schools counselors started their six-university tour of Ohio liberal arts colleges at Wittenberg today, Professor Pamela Schindler and management senior Ashley Reed '06 (Columbus, OH) were there to discuss the management program.

"The counselors have some critical questions to answer during their visit," explained Schindler. "They take these answers, compare them with those they receive at the other schools, and determine whether they will recommend to their students that they consider Wittenberg."

Counselors from as far away as California, North Carolina, Texas, and Connecticut asked about job placement rates, graduate and professional program admits, advising, and whether students could combine a major with a variety of minors. They also asked about the difference between an economics major with some accounting and what Wittenberg offers.

"We shared that Wittenberg is one of only a few liberal arts colleges in the country that offer a full undergraduate business or management program," explained Schindler. Counselors were also interested in the senior portfolio program, and how students used their completed portfolios. Reed discussed the portfolio program, and shared her distinguished portfolio with those counselors who were interested.

"Overall, thought, they were most intrigued by WittCAM- Wittenberg 's Center for Applied Management and its programs. That's one reason I recruited Ashley to join me," shared Schindler. "She was great at explaining her WittCAM project, The Entrepreneurial Business Award of Clark and Champaign Counties."

"I told them it is the most valuable thing I've done at Wittenberg -because it is," claimed Reed. "And that I wished I had gotten involved earlier and done more projects."

Ashley Reed '06, from Upper Arlington, Ohio, is a Wittenberg senior majoring in business management. She has worked for Midwestern Medical and Reed Orthopedics for the past four summers, where she created a new system to take inventory and distribute surgical instrument sets to and from the sales representatives. Reed also held position of Vice President of Finance for the Wittenberg chapter of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and giving back to her community. Reed is planning a management career in marketing or public relations.
