Amy Nilson ’07 receives two key Chi Omega Awards

March 27 , 2007
Springfield, OH—At its annual scholarship awards dinner held at the Springfield Country Club, Amy Nilson ’07 spent much of her time walking up to the podium to accept awards. Whether for scholarship or leadership, Nilson’s contributions to the sorority were well appreciated.
Professor Pamela Schindler presented Nilson with her first award, the 2007 Pauline Burnette Award for excellence in management. The Pauline Burnett Award, established in 1988, honors a charter member of the Tau Gamma Chapter (Wittenberg University) of Chi Omega who worked for years as the Assistant Manager of the Springfield Country Club, long before women managers were easily accepted. Each year’s recipient must have credible scholarship and excel in both business-related campus activities and in her employment experiences. “Professor Wayne Maurer wrote of Amy that “he’d like to have 15 more just like her,” in complimenting her outstanding performance in her management classes,” shared Schindler. “This is also the first time in the xx-year history of the award that a student has won the award two years in a row; Amy also won the 2006 Pauline Burnett Award.”
Cathy Wray Shepard honored Nilson with the 2007 Ruth Hartzell Wray Award. The Ruth Hartzell Wray Award was established in 1988 to recognize Chi Omegas who are proven leaders among their peers in the chapter as well as in the Wittenberg community. Recipients must have high scholarship, as well as membership in several activities and honor societies. Shepard shared how important mentoring the growth of women was to her mother, for whom the award is named. Wray and her husband both served at different times as members of the Wittenberg Board of Directors. Wray was also a long time advisor to the Tau Gamma chapter. Nilson was recognized for her extensive support of her sorority sisters in both their personal and chapter endeavors.
