Management Department — Management Internship (MI)

What is a Management Internship?
- The academic MI program exposures you to organization problem solving and compares and contrasts what is learned in the classroom with what is learned on the job.. An intern works within an organization, on-site, for 100-150 hours, usually 10-12 hours per week during the academic term.
Who can participate in MI?
- Any management major who has completed the requisite 300 level course(s).
Why should I enroll in a MI?
- To develop your planning, organizing, problem solving, communication skills.
- To apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in your management classes.
- To learn new skills not taught in classes.
- To develop an intern report which can serve as a management portfolio element.
- To earn relevant experience for a job search in many fields.
What is expected of a management intern?
- Negotiate learning objectives with your intern and your faculty coordinator.
- Undertake activities consistent with accomplishing the learning objectives.
- Maintain a journal of your observations and your comparisons to management theory and concepts.
- Represent Wittenberg in a professional manner when working at or representing your client.
- Meet with your MI faculty supervisor as directed, usually 3-5 times per term.
- Prepare and deliver a weekly progress report to your faculty supervisor.
- Complete a sponsor evaluation form at term's end.
- Prepare an analytical report at term's end, subject to the guidelines provided by your faculty supervisor.
What does MI participation cost?
- In addition to regular course registration costs, you may incur transportation costs, depending on your client's location.
