WHRMA Earns Prestigious 2007-2008 SHRM Merit Award

After a year of planning, the Wittenberg student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) submitted and received the Merit Award for the 2007-2008 academic year. SHRM received 112 entries from the more than 400 student chapters. The award recognizes chapters that have done an outstanding job of providing opportunities for growth and development of members, as well as promoting the field of Human Resource Management. To earn the award, chapters needed to accumulate a certain number of points for various types of activities. Some of the activities for which WHRMA earned points included maintaining a student chapter web site, hosting speakers on HR-related topics, participating in formal internship programs, providing company visit opportunities, promoting the HR field to non-HR majors through workshops and activity fairs on campus, having members who held offices in other organizations, contributing money to the SHRM Foundation and the Kristen Yarger Memorial Scholarship. The officers responsible for achieving this honor for the chapter include Suzanne Thompson (President), Matt Delestienne (Vice President), Carolyn Boggs (Secretary), Abby Johnson (Treasurer), Amy Apidone (Merit Award), Allyson Finn, (Merit Award), Zachary Rinker (Publications), and Desirae Ciraci (Membership).
