redline

February 11 , 2009

Springfield, OH -- The Kristen Yarger Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award given to rising junior or senior Cedarville and Wittenberg students who have at least a 3.0 GPA and are pursuing a curriculum for a career in HR.  The 2008 recipients are quite impressive.  The first scholarship was awarded to Casey Strawser at the May 8th SHRMA luncheon.  Casey is a junior/senior Management major and Psychology minor at Wittenberg University.  She has served as Co-President of Union Board, Treasurer of WHRMA, and is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and Primetime.  During the academic year she has worked in the office of Student Accounts and volunteered at the Westcott House.  Last summer she interned at Honda of America in Marysville completing HR-related projects.  Currently she is preparing for graduate school in Industrial/Organizational Psychology by working on a research project with Dr. Gradwohl.

The second scholarship was awarded to Trinh, a rising seo Mai nior from Wittenberg University, at the September 2008 luncheon.   Mai, a two-time recipient of this scholarship, is a double major (East Asian Studies and Management) and double minor (Chinese and Economics).  Last year she studied abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.  She has held multiple leadership positions (e.g., President of the Martial Arts Club), worked in the Admission office, served as a tutor in the Math Workshop and Foreign Language Learning Center, and volunteered her time (e.g., Forging Responsible Youth).  In addition to receiving numerous honors and awards (e.g., Omicron Delta Kappa Sophomore Involvement Award), she was awarded a summer research fellowship through Wittenberg University.   She collected data on demographic and psychological diversity within volunteer teams while completing an internship with STA Travel in Hanoi, Vietnam.  She is currently analyzing this data for her senior honors thesis under the direction of Dr. Gradwohl.  In addition, Mai has received the SHRM (Socieity for Human Resource Management) Internship Sponsorship and SHRM Scholarship, two highly competitive awards.  Her long-term plans involve achieving a doctorate graduate degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or Organizational Behavior as well as an M.B.A. in International Business.
