Ensembles

Wittenberg music ensembles are open to all students, regardless of major. Auditions for ensembles are held during the first week of fall semester.

Wittenberg Choir performs repertoire drawn from the Renaissance through the 20th century. The choir presents a major concert tour each spring. Hear the Wittenberg Choir.

Wittenberg Choir

Wittenberg Singers is a four-part women’s choir that performs both sacred and secular classical music. Witt Singers presents a concert each semester.

Wittenberg Singers

Wittenberg Symphonic Band is the largest instrumental group on campus, with woodwinds, brass, and percussion. It is open by audition to Wittenberg students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the Springfield community. Hear the Symphonic Band.

Wittenberg Chamber Orchestra is open to all string players. Woodwind, brass, and percussion players are invited to perform as repertoire requires. The ensemble is open, by audition, to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Springfield community.

Jazz Ensemble is a full big band (saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and rhythm section) that performs music including swing, Latin, and rock fusion. The ensemble is open to all students by audition.

Jazz Ensemble

Opera Studio is a small group open to voice students who have had least one year of private voice instruction. It offers experience in performing opera scenes from a variety of operas. Recent productions have included scenes from Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Strauss’s Die Fledermaus.

Opera Studio

Musical theatre productions are jointly produced by the Music Department and the Department of Theatre and Dance. These “main stage” musicals, directed by faculty, are presented in Chakeres Theatre every other year. Auditions are announced on campus. Students cast in major roles may enroll in Music Theatre Production for credit.

H.M.S. Pinafore

Smaller groups are formed in response to student interest. Some of these groups are composed entirely of students; others include both students and faculty. In recent semesters, these ensembles (usually fewer than ten performers) have rehearsed and performed instrumental chamber music and music for voices and instruments combined.
