I've been studying about Russia since 1958, and my interest in the country has only deepened throughout my years in college, graduate school, and over 30 years at Wittenberg."

Awards and Recognitions

Winner of the 2002 Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching, the highest recognition
bestowed on a Wittenberg faculty member. Recipient of the prestigious Senior Fulbright Scholarship
to spend a year teaching and doing research in Moscow during the 1995-96 academic year. Also,
recipient of grants from the National Science Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Publications

Published over 60 articles, papers and reviews on Soviet and Russian national security and domestic affairs in journals in the United States and Europe. Editor of and contributor to Soviet National Security Policy Under Perestioika.

Research Interests

I am conducting research, together with Russian colleagues, on emerging Russian civil society. In the summer, 1999 and 2001, twenty-two Wittenberg students accompanied Professor Olga Medvedkov and myself on a research trip to Moscow.

Other Positions

I am currently the director for Wittenberg's Russian Area Studies Program.

Other Interests/Info

I have been a member of the Wittenberg faculty since 1972. I am married and have two boys who have recently graduated from college.
