In the billboard above is a picture of a woman who appears weak and fearful next to a man gazing at her. The quote on the sign refers to the man as a predator. Jean Kilbourne discusses the consequences of images such as these in Killing us Softly 3 Advertising’s Image of Women (1999). “When women are shown in positions of powerlessness, submission, and subjugation, the message to men is clear: women are inferior to men and thus deserve to be dominated, and women exist to fulfill the needs of men.”

The advertisement to the left is another cologne ad that portrays masculinity as determinant on physical strength and ability. To quote Kilbourne again in regards to dichotomous relationship between masculinity and femininity as depicted in advertising, “The image of girls and women is usually passive, vulnerable, and very different from the body language of boys and men.”
