Gender stereotypes are present all over the globe; it is the kinds of stereotypes, the origins, and the consequences that vary. While visiting Sarajevo, I observed and photographed several advertisements and media images that I believed shed light on the kinds of stereotypes present in the media in Sarajevo. There have been relatively few studies done on gender and the media in Sarajevo because “In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia...gender issues were sidelined, while national and international attention was focused on the importance of ethnic regional and religious equality” (Bamburak, p.45). I used this opportunity to explore the unexplored.
