Award-Winning Faculty

Luminaries with life experience. National and international experts in their fields. Those are pretty accurate descriptions of Witt professors. Professors like award-winning biology professor Horton Hobbs, who has single handedly elevated cave research throughout the state. Or associate professor of history Amy Livingstone, an expert on Chartres Cathedral in France, who was featured recently in a National Geographic Channel documentary. Then there's Warren Copeland, religion professor and Springfield’s mayor, who tirelessly devotes himself to enriching the lives of both students and local residents.

Whatever their field or personal research interests, our professors strive to be the best, and in the process, give our students the best of their talents. From small class sizes to personal academic advising, the whole educational experience is taken to a more human level. The Witt light, after all, is about passing on knowledge — and that’s done best person to person, and friend to friend. At Wittenberg, professors don’t just enlighten students; they become friends for life.
