Our Athletic Tradition

Our Tigers have been national stars for as long as anyone can remember, competing in national championships in football and basketball.  Many of our 23 varsity intercollegiate teams, which participate in the North Coast Athletic Conference, advance to conference and national championship tournaments every year.

It’s not just our student-athletes who possess that competitive spirit.  Just sit in the stands during any home game, and you’ll see a crowd of students, faculty, staff and Springfield residents, all cheering the Tigers on to victory.  Or drop by the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Center any day, where you’ll see club teams practicing for an upcoming competition, intramural games in process, and individual students using our outstanding fitness facilities.

In the fall, varsity teams are fielded in men's and women's cross country, women's field hockey, men's football, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball. Winter sports are men's and women's swimming, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track. The spring season features men's and women's golf, men's and women's outdoor track, men's and women's tennis, women's softball, men's baseball and men's and women's lacrosse.
