Class I – Dr. Janice Glowski ’87 – Adjunct Wittenberg faculty in East Asian Studies

Chinese Religious Traditions – This session explores Taoism and Confucianism, two major religious traditions in China. We will discuss the historical foundations and philosophies of these traditions, as well as the rituals and practices that are central to the lives of practitioners.

Chinese Art – How does art express a culture’s views of the world? What roles does it play in the continuous dance between religion, politics and social structure? This session explores these questions by looking at the arts of China, including Taoist and Confucian art. In addition, we have a rare opportunity to see and discuss Chinese art in Wittenberg’s permanent collection.

Overview of the Olympics - Have the Olympics changed is it the Olympians who have changed? Would Baron Pierre de Coubertin be pleased with today’s Olympics? Americans idolize their sports and their athletes. Has winning progressed from citius, altius, fortius to win at any cost? What have been the largest influences on the Olympics throughout the years?

Panel discussion of Olympics We have Attended and what to look for in the 2008 Beijing Summer Games. Caroline has attended ten Olympics beginning with Mexico City. Claire has attended five games beginning with Seoul, Korea. They are planning on being in Beijing this August.
