August 2003
Dear Fellow Alumni,
We asked. We listened. We took your advice! In response to focus groups, written surveys and informal conversations at Alumni Chapter events, the Wittenberg Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations are announcing major changes for future Wittenberg alumni reunions.
Beginning in 2004, all reunions will be held during Homecoming Weekend in October (instead of May or June.) Why? Along with the traditional receptions and dinners, Homecoming features fall sports, brings back memories of crisp fall college days, and offers exciting entertainment and opportunities to chat with faculty and students on campus. Bustling residence halls and Greek houses and student talent showcased in theatre, art, drama and the sciences will bring back fond memories and give a view of Wittenberg today.
The Alumni Association will also be bringing back the popular Cluster Reunion Schedule which Wittenberg alumni enjoyed for the past 30 years, before the university changed to the Anniversary Reunion Schedule in the year 2000. More than 85 percent of the alumni recently surveyed preferred a return to the Cluster Plan. Most of us made our friendships in the classroom, Greek houses, choir and other campus activities, and the Cluster Reunion Schedule allows us to reunite with our classmates and those older and younger friends.
Probably the only drawback to the Cluster Reunion Schedule was the confusion over when your next reunion would be held. With today's technology, especially e-mail (alumni@wittenberg.edu) and the Wittenberg Web site (www.wittenberg.edu/alumni), the answer to that question is always just a mouse click away! Click here to view the Cluster Reunion Schedule until 2027! Please note that special anniversary classes - 10th, 25th and 50th - will celebrate separately with classmates.
Successful reunions have also been built around affinity groups. Strong bonds built on campus during college days have brought members of the Witt Choir, Shifters and Greeks of the '70s back to campus to reunite. The possibilities for affinity group reunions are endless and, where there is an interest, these reunions will continue. If you would like to head up an affinity reunion simply contact the alumni office via e-mail at alumni@wittenberg.edu.
The Wittenberg University Alumni Board, Office of Alumni Relations, and focus groups with faculty, staff, the physical plant and the board of directors are all excited about the possibilities of better serving our alumni with this plan. We also welcome your comments and suggestions, and we hope that you will contact us if you are interested in serving on your next reunion committee.
Sincerely,
