Awarded the Omicron Delta Kappa Award
for Excellence in Teaching in 1993, Lewis has
made a great impact in his 12 years at
Wittenberg. Lewis teaches courses in ecology
and environmental biology, as well as field
ecology courses in northern Minnesota,
Michigan, Wisconsin and the Bahamas.
Adding to his biological knowledge base, Lewis is continually researching spotted and wood turtle ecology, white-tailed deer population dynamics, forest management in small woodlots, and tropical snail ecology. He has received research funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Beaver Creek Wetlands Association, the Institute for 2151 Century Studies and the E.L.C.A. Lewis holds a B.A. from Augustana College and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University ofWisconsin.
In addition to teaching and research, Lewis plays an important role in campus activities. He is the faculty adviser to Green Cross and the Wildlife Club, and has been active in working with the university on its recycling program, energy conservation and waste reduction. He currently serves as Chair of the Biology Department and is the Faculty Coordinator for the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center project.
