Wittenberg Affiliation: Professor
Hometown: Miami, Fl (sort of. I was born in Atlanta, GA, but only resided there until I was 2.)
What is your favorite Wittenberg memory?
It is a tossup between Bishop Hanson’s Convocation address (gave me a sense of what it means to be part of the ELCA) and Michael Eric Dyson’s rhetorical tour de force. A close third: Wooster vs. Wittenberg triple overtime
Why Witt Nation?
Cultivating relationships is essential to sustaining a community. I think Witt Nation attempts to create the conditions that makes relationship formation and rejuvenation possible.
What is your involvement on the trip?
I am not really sure.
What is a lesson you learned while at Wittenberg?
I have recognized that the impact we make on the lives of students is immeasurable and we should stop trying to quantify and measure every experience.
Tunes?
Eliades Ochoa, Orishas, Julieta Venegas, Bryonn Bain, Tracy Chapman, Juan Luis Guerra, Jack Johnson and books on tape. Are books on tape really music?
Favorites:
Show: Show? Does this mean a television show? NO SHOW.
Movie: El Hijo de la Novia, La Femme Nikita, The Great Debaters, La Belle Epoque
Team: Dolphins
Book: Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks or anything by Plato
Food: Cuban Roast Pork, Rice, Beans and Maduros—those are fried, ripe plantains for those of you who are paying attention.
Music:I am all over the place. Depends on the alignment of the stars and, as might be obvious, the season.
Interesting fact about yourself:
I have two wonderful children. My daughter is a four year old, spirited, bilingual ‘bola de humo’ and my son is an adorable, loving and smiling “little person.”
Road Trip Essentials:
Ipod, books on tape, books, books on tape, books. Did I mention books?
