Department Overview

Wittenberg University offers a broad-based intercollegiate athletics program with 23 varsity teams - 11 for men and 12 for women - and numerous club and intramural opportunities.

In the fall, varsity teams are fielded in men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball. Winter sports are men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track and field. The spring season features men's and women's golf, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, softball, baseball and men's and women's lacrosse.

In 2005-06, Wittenberg placed fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports standings as three Tiger teams won championships: women's basketball (regular season), volleyball (conference tournament) and men's basketball (conference tournament). Approximately 100 student-athletes were named to All-NCAC teams during the school year and three coaches were honored with various coach of the year honors. Numerous student-athletes and coaches also pick up regional and national athletic and academic awards each year.

Annually, Wittenberg places among the top four in the North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports standings, powered by the volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, field hockey and football programs, all of which have the most championships in conference history. In addition, dozens of student-athletes are named to All-NCAC teams each year and Wittenberg coaches regularly garner with various Coach of the Year honors.

In addition, Wittenberg has finished in the top 25 percent in the NACDA Directors' Cup standings in 11 of its 12 years of existence, with a high of 20th out of more than 430 NCAA Division III schools in 2002-03. At least three Tiger teams have earned national finishes in each of the those 12 years.
