Internships — Local Internship Sites 
There are many great internships
right here in Clark County and the surrounding area. Following is
a partial list of local sites where Wittenberg students have interned
in the past.
ARTS/MUSEUMS
Clark
County Historical Society (Springfield, OH): Community heritage resource
center with a library, archives and occasional exhibits. Interns assist
staff in the preservation, cataloging and organizing of historical items.
Clark
State Performing Art Center (Springfield, OH): Involvement
in all areas of the center operation with interns called upon to offer
ideas and suggestions. If intern has a particular area of interest or
skill, special projects can be developed to meet his/her needs.
Springfield
Museum of Art (Springfield, OH): Areas in which interns may work include
collection research, writing museum tours, and creation of art projects
and curriculum materials.
Springfield
Symphony Orchestra (Springfield, OH): Assist with various aspects
of marketing/public relations, including writing press releases and public
service announcements, writing copy for ads and direct mail pieces, preparing
mailings, etc.
BUSINESS
Clark,
Schaefer, Hackett & Co (Springfield, OH): Financial and business consulting
firm. Interns are assigned variety of projects as needed by the company.
Human
Resources Department, Community Hospital
(Springfield, OH) Merril
Lynch (Dublin, OH): For Sophomores and juniors, summer analyst programs
offer a comprehensive summer experience. For seniors, analyst training
programs offer world-class preparation prior to placement on the job.
Offers are made to seniors by January prior to spring graduation.
Northwestern
Mutual Life: Interns learn the business of selling insurance.
The responsibilities of an intern are those of a career financial representative:
defining target markets, finding and pursuing clients, nurturing client
relationships, and achieving sales. Rittal
Corporation (Springfield, OH): This company is one of the largest
enclosure manufacturersin the world. Internship positions are available
in various departments as needed by the company, such as marketing or
finance.
Some entries in other sections may have business
components - i.e. arts/museums, communications.
COMMUNICATIONS
1600 WULM AM Radio (Springfield,
OH): This radio station features late 50s and 60s Rock & Roll and
Soul classics. The site offers hands-on experience in several areas
with possible "on-air" experience. Internships offered
include: Board Operator, News Intern, Productions Assistant, Promotions
Assistant, Sales Account Assistant, Sports Intern, and Traffic/Office
Assistant.
New Carlisle Sun (New Carlisle, OH): Interns
are involved in aspects of the newspaper: News writing, Photography, Editing,
Research, and much more.
Ohio
Historic Preservation Office (Columbus, OH): Interns will get the
chance to work on substantial project(s) such as development of media
kits, editing of the organization's newsletter, posters design, etc.
Urbana
Daily Citizen (Urbana, OH): News reporter and photographer internships.
Reporter conducts interviews, covers meetings and writes feature articles.
Photographer takes assigned photos, scans negatives to computer and does
other newsroom duties as needed.
WDTN
TV2 (Dayton, OH): An ABC affiliate where interns get the chance to
work with assigned editors, reporters, producers, photographers and other
news department personnel in a day-to-day operation. Some job responisbilities
include: news gathering, news writing and some other reporting skills.
WBNS
10TV (Columbus, OH): An CBS affiliate with internships available in
many areas such as Kids News Network, Market research and sales, News
department, Production department, Promotion department, Engineering department.
Positions are competitive.
EDUCATION
Bright Beginnings (Springfield, OH): A
child care facility where interns have the opportunity to observe child
development while interacting with children and staff.
Community Leadership Association
of Clark County (Springfield, OH): Offers programs to broaden the base
for leadership and community service in Springfield and Clark County.
Work closely with the Director on various projects and programs.
K12
Gallery for Young People (Dayton, OH): A vibrant, non-profit arts
organization offering a wide variety of classes, workshops, exhibitions,
and special events for children. Interns will have opportunities
to assist with programs such as Creative Learning After School Studio
(C.L.A.S.S.), Community outreach, Saturday workshops, or Summer art camp.
OIC/Learning
Opportunities Center (Springfield, OH): Interns will have opportunities
to tutor students , mentor, aid in the classroom, and assist with computer
tasks, Ohio state proficiencies, physical education classes, teachers,
and career exploration activities.
Some entries in other sections may have education
components - i.e. environment, arts/museum sections.
ENVIRONMENT
Clark County Water Management (Springfield, OH): Internships will depend
upon needs of agency. Past examples include Waste Reduction (Recycling)
Intern and Environmental/Risk Management Intern. Work with district
staff on special projects and programs for the city of Springfield and
Clark County.
Columbus
& Franklin Co. Metro Park District (Columbus, OH area): Interns
work in areas such as Carpentry, Construction, Horticulture, Interpretive
naturalist, Landscape architect, Living Historical Farm, Park/Golf Course
maintenance, Publications and Resource Management.
Natural
Trail Parks and Recreation District, Clark County-(Springfield, OH)
Interns develop and distribute monthly newsletter, provide information
about Park District events to the media, assist with other projects as
needed.
Glen
Helen Ecology Institute (Yellow Springs, OH): Offers environmental
and educational programs for the public in which intern assists with various
projects.
Five
River MetroParks (Dayton, OH area)- Intern at Wegerzyn Horticultural
Center and Cox Arboretum horticultural facilities; Carriage Hill, a living
history farm and nature facility; Possum Creek Farm, an educational farm;
Germantown Metro Park, a large, rural park with an underground nature
center; Wesleyan Nature Center, an inner-city nature center; or the north
MetroParks.
National
Audubon Society (Dayton, OH)- Work at Aullwood Center teaching and
studying natural history or working on the organic farm.
HEALTH/MEDICINE
Community
Hospital Center for Healthy Lifestyles (Springfield, OH):Interns
analyze how a healthy lifestyle can affect a person's psychological state,
observe and conduct nutrition presentations. Also, interns could
assist at nutrition clinics taking weights, blood pressure and cholesterol.
Clark
County Combined Health Districts (Springfield, OH): Offers a variety
of programs including Environmental Health Services, Public Health Services
and Vital Statistics (Birth and Death Certificates).
Planned
Parenthood of West Central Ohio (Dayton, OH): Offers a variety of
services in which interns could assist with, i.e. medical services, professional
and community education, a lending library, health education, options/information
and referral for infertility and sterilization.
Mercy-Keifer
Health Center (Springfield, OH):
Depending on the semester and the student's interest- (fall) coordinate
a mentoring program, (spring) a peer education program, (summer) outcome
evaluation, planning and grant writing. Keifer Alternative Center is a
community health center that provides health care to low income families
in the area and educates students at Keifer about health issues (drugs,
smoking, safe sex).
Mercy
Parent-Infant Center (Springfield, OH): Activities can include participation
and assistance with childbirth and parenting classes. Interns will
have an active role in team teaching, recording infant wi\eight/heights,
observe parent-infant interactions and progress during class period.
Physical/Occupational Department (Springfield, OH): Interns are provided
with the opportunity to assist therapists with physician-referred, outpatient
rehabilitation needs at the Mercy Rehab Center.
GOVERNMENT/LAW
Columbus
(OH) City Prosecutor's Office- Provide support in areas of domestic
violence, court room arraignments or for court attorneys. Fast-paced environment.
Interest in law desired.
Clark
County Prosecutors Office (Springfield, OH): Assist attorneys and
office staff.
Springfield
Prosecuting Attorney- Assist attorneys
and office staff.
Springfield
(OH) Police Department- Gain experience in forensics and the legal
system. Involves working closely with the Police Department administration
and officers.
Clark
County Juvenile Court (Springfield, OH): Work with CASA (Court Appointed
Special Advocates) program, the detention center, probation, placement,
treatment, restitution and youth employment services (Y.E.S.).
Economic
Development Office (Springfield, OH): Participate in research, writing,
economic planning projects, working closely with Economic Development
Administrator for City of Springfield.
Montgomery
County Juvenile Court (Dayton, OH): Work closely with Probation Department
staff members on tasks of investigating, analyze data and acting as a
"case mentor" with probationers who need particular attention.
Congressman
David Hobson's Office (Springfield, OH): Interns help staff in local
office respond to requests from constituents, work on special projects,
etc.
Hofbauer & Marshall Law Firm
(Springfield, OH): Interns do research, deliver court documents, assist
with general office work.
SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY
COSI - Center of
Science and Industry (Columbus, OH): Interns in a variety of departments
throughout COSI including the following: education and programs, exhibits,
marketing, development, administration and operations, and teen programs.
Each intern position is based around a project to be completed within
the quarter or semester of the internship.
Northside
Veterinarian Clinic (Springfield,
OH): Work with doctors and technicians to gain hands-on experience in
the field of veterinary medicine.
SOCHE
Research Program (Dayton, OH): Intern in a state-of-the-art laboratory.
Research positions at the Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory at Wright
Patterson Air Force Base.

SOCIAL SERVICES
Child Adolescent Family Center
(Springfield, OH): Assist with services for children, adolescents and
their families: assessments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric
services, and psychological evaluations.
McKinley Hall (Springfield, OH): Observe/assist
with counseling and other program services to persons impacted by substance
abuse problems.
Youth Challenges (Springfield,
OH): Observe/assist with counseling and other programs for youth 6-17
years of age. Offered through Metal Health Services for Clark County.
Family Service Agency (Springfield,
OH): Assist with agency projects, outreach and community development.
Examples of agency projects: grant/proposal development, preparation for
agency accreditation, planning major events.
Oesterlen
Services for Youth- Assist with
individual, group and /or family treatment for children and adolescents
experiencing difficulties with interpersonal relationships within the
family, school and /or community. Residential treatment services utilize
psychological treatment to assist severely dysfunctional adolescents.
Project Woman (Springfield,
OH): Help with services provided, such as Rape Crisis Line, counseling,
support groups and referral services. Work with battered women and rape
survivors. Project Woman also makes presentations to clubs and schools
on a variety of topics.
