Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
Based on Carl Jung's theory of personality type, the MBTI is designed to help people understand the strengths and weaknesses associated with their temperaments. This information can be used to identify career fields that parallel one's personality type. It can also be used to help one understand how to improve their job search skills.
Campbell Interest & Skill Survey (CISS)
This tool compares your interests and skills with people who are happily employed in a variety of occupations and is helpful for identifying career options to consider. The results compare how your likes and dislikes and skill confidence areas correspond with those working in nearly 60 occupations.
FOCUS
FOCUS is a computer-based guidance system that helps students:
Students can generally complete the program in an hour, and the system stores their results for future use. In order to access FOCUS, you must first register with the Career Center to receive a user name and password. To register, please stop by 210 Shouvlin or call 327-7521. After completing FOCUS, students are strongly encouraged to schedule a follow-up appointment with one of the Career Center directors to discuss their results and learn about additional steps they can take to make effective career decisions.
Occupational Values Card Sort
If an occupation does not match your most important values very well, you will probably not be satisfied with it. Most students have formed an opinion about what they value in terms of salary/wages, but are less familiar with other key occupational values (e.g., time freedom, competition, work pace). The card sort is comprised of 41 values and helps the student to prioritize which values are most important to them.
