WittMail - Mail Filters
red bar
Solution Center     Room 13, Synod Hall     solution@wittenberg.edu     (937)525-3801

Mail Filters can be defined to check incoming messages for specific E-mail address information. When the rule condition is met, the information is tagged and moved to a specified folder. This is useful to locate specific files when they arrive, or also identify unwanted E-mail and send them directly to the Trash folder.

  1. Click located in the top right corner to open the Preferences screen.
  2. Click Mail Filters to open the Mail Filters screen. This screen is where existing rules are displayed, and you have the option of adding a new filter.
  3. To add a new filter, click Add a Rule to open the Add a Filtering Rule pop-up window.
Or - to edit an existing filter, click to open the Add a Filtering Rule pop-up window.
  4. Select the Header Field that should be used in this filter from the drop-down list.
  5. Type in a full or partial search string that should be used to Match from the selected header.

    Note:
Be careful not to enter a rule so broad that it matches a wide range of E-mail messages. The filters will search the entire selected header field for your search string.

For example: choosing the "Subject" Header Field and a Match string of "a" filters every E-mail message that contains an "A" or an "a" anywhere in the subject field.
  6. From the Move To drop-down list, select the folder to which matching messages should be moved.
  7. Select whether the filters should be applied only to new messages or to all messages.
  8. Click ok button to save and close the window and return to the Mail Filters screen. The rule and its criteria are shown on the screen.
Or - click Cancel Button to cancel and close the window.
  9. Select the Filter Preferences from the drop-down list (Only New Messages, or All Messages).
  10. Click ok button to save and close the screen. The defined filter runs and places the files into the respective folder.
Or - click to save and not close the screen (may want to add another filter).
Or - click Cancel Button to cancel and close the screen.
  11. To remove a filter, click next to the filter you wish to delete. The Mail Filters screen will refresh with an updated list.

Note: Filters are applied every time an E-mail message list is refreshed in the WittMail application, and they are applied in the order they are defined.
