Laptop computers offer more flexibility in a work environment. To that end, campus laptops are setup to use three different network connections or environments. This computer can be used when connected directly (with a network cable), when used in a docking station that is connected directly (network cable from the docking station to wall), or wirelessly (where available).

*Note: In order to switch from one connection type to another, TURN OFF the computer first.

  1. On Campus plug into the network (This is where you have the laptop plugged into the network via an Ethernet cable or with a docking station.):
    1. Plug in the Ethernet cable or put the laptop into the docking station
    2. Turn on the laptop
    3. Wait for the Logon screen to appear (the one asking to press ctrl-alt-delete)
    4. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and say ok to the warning
    5. Username: your Wittenberg Windows username
    6. Password: your Wittenberg Windows password
    7. Logon To: make sure it says WITTENBERG
    8. Click log on
    9. You are now logged on to the Wittenberg University campus windows network.

  2. On Campus in a wireless access area (This is where you are not using the docking station and do not have a network cable connected to the computer. Make sure that there is not an Ethernet cable plugged in and it is not in a docking station.):
    1. Turn on the laptop
    2. Wait for the logon screen to appear (the one asking to press ctrl-alt-delete)
    3. Press ctrl-alt-delete and say ok to the warning
    4. Username: localadministrator (all lower case, all one word)
    5. Password: password that was provided by IT Dept
    6. Logon To: make sure it says "Car110d-n01 (This computer)"
    7. Then click ok to log on
    8. Turn on the Wireless (the antenna button near top-right of keyboard OR by clicking Start, Programs, ThinkVantage, Access Connections and power the wireless radio ON)
    9. Open Internet Explorer
    10. When asked for username type in your Wittenberg username
    11. For the password type in your Wittenberg password
    12. Click connect
    13. You are now logged on to the Wittenberg University campus windows network.

  3. Using the Campus laptop outside of campus:
    1. Turn on the laptop
    2. Wait for the logon screen to appear (the one asking to press ctrl-alt-delete)
    3. Press ctrl-alt-delete and say ok to the warning
    4. Username: localadministrator (all lower case, all one word)
    5. Password: password that was provided by IT Dept
    6. Logon To: make sure it says "Car110d-n01 (This computer)"
    7. Then click ok to log on
    8. You are now logged on to the laptop using the localadministrator account. This means that you can do anything you want to with the laptop such as add or remove software and uninstall. DO NOT share this password with anyone else. The local account and password on this computer are governed by the same policies used for all campus computer accounts.

  4. Access campus files or resources remotely (using an ISP other than Wittenberg):
