Upcoming training

Upcoming training - Moving to Outlook, Introduction to Office 2007, and Moodle If you're interested in a session, please reply to this message and let us know when you can attend. If you have student workers in your department, please feel free to have them sign up for any training (or request training) you'd like.

Descriptions:
Moodle - With version 1.7 in place, there are some new activities available and some changes for the better in the grade book. Multiple roles available in the course allow more flexibility whether the course uses a team approach or includes a teaching assistant. And students can belong to more than one working group! Come with your syllabus and other course materials to build a course during this session, or just come to see what's new! (1.5 to 2 hours)
Moving to Microsoft Outlook - For those who wish to leave Eudora behind, have an integrated calendar, or for anyone already using Outlook who would like to learn about features and options in Outlook 2007. (2-4 hours)
***Please read all of the Outlook/Exchange training section below for instructions.

If your department or another group would like to schedule a session for either Moodle or Outlook at a different time, please let us know! We'll add sessions as necessary. Please RSVP to solution@wittenberg.edu for the Outlook/Exchange training session - there are items the computing center staff must set up for you in advance. If you are unable to attend the session, please let us know as soon as possible to prevent confusion with your e-mail.

At this time, moving to Outlook/Exchange will require 2-4 hours, based on how much e-mail you have/would like to keep. We are considering Saturday AM times and late afternoon/evening (3-7PM, 4-8PM) times to accommodate your schedules. Please let us know as soon as possible if you're willing to commit to one of these alternate times and we will add sessions based on your responses.

**Exceptions - We can accommodate you if you need to come to a session late. The minimum time of 2 hours will be enough for many people to complete the transition to Outlook/Exchange. Please send a message if you'd like to try coming in an hour or two late or if you'll need to leave earlier. We can check the amount of e-mail you have and advise you about a time estimate for moving your e-mail.

Outlook/Exchange training information and instructions (please read all instructions):
The Solution Center is offering training and conversion sessions to any interested faculty or staff to convert your e-mail/calendar/contact information to MS Outlook using Microsoft Exchange (rather than Eudora/Lotus Organizer/and IMAP for e-mail). Why? Using Exchange and Outlook provides more flexibility with e-mail, personal calendars, departmental calendars, and other interesting features. The training and converting to Outlook will take about 2 hours, and moving your contacts, e-mail, calendars, etc. will take an additional .5 to 3 hours. (Times are approximate - everyone has different amounts of e-mail.)

What we do during the session:
We do set up some items in advance, so PLEASE be sure to let us know if you can't make the session.

IMPORTANT! These are the things you need to do before you attend the session:
  1. Clean out old e-mails you no longer need, especially those in your Outbox. The more mail you have to move the longer it will take to move to the Exchange system.
  2. If you are a Eudora user, and you have special folders/mailboxes above Dominant in the mailbox listing you will need to move these to your Dominant (IMAP) mail area. (To do this, create a folder by right clicking "Dominant", choosing new folder, and naming it. Then you can open the mailbox above Dominant with the messages to be moved and drag them to the matching mailbox you created. Need help with this? That's ok too. Show up a little early and we'll get you going on this.)
  3. You MUST be logged off any computer system on campus before class.
  4. Be prepared to spend the whole time at the session, especially if you have a lot of e-mail to be moved. If you have large amounts of e-mail, contacts to import from multiple locations, calendars, etc., you will need to plan on finishing with our help later.
  5. Be sure to show up for the session if you sign up for it. We have to setup some settings on the Exchange server before the session for those attending. So if you sign up but do not attend your account will be in a state which can lead to missing e-mail messages for a time.
Interested?
We'd like to work around YOUR schedule. To that end, just let us know a day when you can get 5 or more people together (one department, multiple areas - it doesn't make any difference) and we'll do our best to meet your timeframe. If you or a couple of people can be flexible about times but can't find others in your area to come to training, let us know and we can add you to another group's session.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
