Reading Off Campus Newsgroups

To launch Netscape Messenger: In your Start Menu go to Programs, Netscape Communicator, and open Netscape Messenger. Getting to the Newsgroup: In order to read news first you'll need to sign up for newsgroups:

• Right click News in the left hand window.
• Select Subscribe to Newsgroups.
• The Server option should be News; if not, change to News.
• Type the news server name in the space for Newsgroup.
• Click Add Server.
• In the Verify type of server box, click News and then Continue.
• Type the news server name in the server space and click OK.
• Select the group from the list in the window that will appear after Netscape connects with the server.
• A checkmark will appear to the right of the newsgroup selected. When you are finished close the window.

There should be an item for each newsgroup in the left-hand window in Netscape Messenger. To read news:

• Double-click any newsgroup item in the window on the left. (Remember that you do not have to delete any messages you read here.)

To post a message:

• Right-click the newsgroup to whom the message should be sent.
• Left-click New Message.
• Type the group's name in the To line, fill in the subject, and put the rest of the message in the body section.
• When finished, click Send.
