Microsoft Photo Editor

After scanning a Photo you may wish to edit its appearance. Microsoft Photo Editor can be used to change the file type (gif, jpg, tif, bmp) resize the image, crop or rotate. Other special effects can change the look of the photo such as texture or a watercolor appearance.

You will find Photo Editor under MS Office Pro Programs. Select the Start button; then select Programs; then select MS Office Pro; then select Microsoft Photo Editor.

To open a photo document, you select (from the Edit Menu Bar) File; then select Open. The process will look and feel the same as when you open a document with a word processor.

You will find the Crop, Resize and Rotate features under IMAGE on the Edit Menu Bar. And the special effects such as watercolor and texture are under EFFECTS on the Edit Menu Bar.

If you do not like an effect or change in a photo, you can undo the last change by selecting EDIT on the Edit Menu Bar and then selecting Undo. This only works for the last change. All previous changes are locked (there is a possible way to recover - read on). The usual edit functions are available here: Cut, Copy, Paste. Note you can also cut or copy a section of a photo and paste it as a new photo.

The Close and Save functions are in the Edit Menu Bar under FILE. If you wish to abandon all changes to the photo, you close the photo without saving it. This will recover you from all changes and allow you to start over with the original photo. If you want to keep both the original and the changes, you select 'Save As.' You will be prompted for a file name. You also have the option of changing the file type. You would use 'Save As' to convert from one file type to another.

This is IMPORTANT! If you just save, the current photo in memory will replace the original photo on file. The original photo is lost. If the photo in memory is what you want to keep then just Save. If you wish to keep the original photo and save the photo in memory, then you must use the Save As option instead.
