Mailing Lists through Witt Portal
Once logged into the Witt Portal section of the Wittenberg website (using your e-mail username and password), select the Mailing Lists option in the navigation bar on the left.
The information in this area helps to sort out what mailing lists are open to self-subscription, which are those where addresses are determined by department, etc., and which are those that have an administrator who adds and removes individuals from the list. The web interface supports three types of mailing lists: Automatic, Owner-Controlled, and Self-subscribed:
- Automatic mailing lists are mailing lists that are to be used for official university business. The members of the list are updated nightly from the administrative database.
- Owner-Controlled mailing lists are mailing lists which can be used for both official and non official purposes. Members of these lists are manually added and removed by the owner of the list.
- Self-subscribed mailing lists are mailing lists which are used for non official purposes. Individuals can add and remove themselves using this web interface.
To find more information about an Available Mailing List (lower right corner), highlight the name of the list and click the List Details button. You'll be able to find out more information such as the list description and the owner of the list, from whom you can get more information about the purpose of the list (the person's name is also a link to send e-mail to them). If you decide that you would like to participate in the list, go back to the browser window with the lists and click the Join List button on the right.
If you've decided that a list wasn't necessarily something you're that interested in receiving, you can also remove yourself from any self-subscribed list. (You cannot remove yourself from automated lists or lists where there is an administrator other than yourself. Those are in the two boxes on the left.) By selecting the list name in the box in the upper right corner and clicking the Remove List button, you have removed your name from the mailing list of your choice.
If there is an organization or a list that you do not see already available, it is also possible to request a list using a form from this web page. Click the Request a List button on the right and complete the information requested.
