In weekly worship, we
gather as a community of Christ. We seek to praise God, to hear
God's word of grace in Jesus Christ, to share in the Lord's Supper,
to pray for the concerns of our community and the world, and to be strengthened
in faith as we are sent out into the world to serve in Christ's name.
Like Wittenberg itself, the order and style of worship are rooted
in the Lutheran tradition, while drawing on a wide range of worship
formats and musical styles from across the Christian church.
Sunday morning worship is more traditional Lutheran and open to everyone regardless of denomination. We use a number of hymnals over the course of a semester,
with a variety of traditional and contemporary music. Sunday
evening worship in Ness Auditorium in Hollenbeck Hall provides
a more informal setting. A student music team leads the
music and prayers, the pastor gives the message, and Holy Communion
is offered twice a month.
In addition, Catholic Mass has been offered at Wittenberg. Due to the retirement of our former priest from this duty, more information will be forthcoming regarding Mass as it becomes available.
Weekday chapel provides a break in the academic day for spiritual renewal and reflection. A student music team leads the
music most days, and students, pastors, faculty, staff, and representatives
of the wider church are the speakers. No classes are held during
this time to allow students and faculty to attend.
A number of festival services are also held in Weaver Chapel every year. Please see the calendar below for more information regarding these events.
In addition, a list of Area Houses of Worship (Christian,
Jewish, Islamic, and others) in the Springfield area is available on
this campus ministry web site - just click, "Area Houses of Worship" on the menu on the left.
