What's Up On Campus

• THE SPRING 2002 SUPPLEMENTAL DIRECTORY IS BEING PRINTED to provide the new student listings, which resulted from the campus telephone switch upgrade. Barring equipment failure, a copy will be in everyone's mail by Wednesday, Jan.16.

• STAFF AND VISITORS ENJOYED THE TRIP UP WEST CAMPUS DRIVE Monday as they were greeted by the first official Wittenberg snowman of 2002. Built in front of Reci on Sunday night by Nikki Herd, admission counselor, and Doug Schantz, coordinator of student accounts, the snowman sported a Wittenberg cap and penant. Herd said they christened him "Ken" in honor of Dean of Admission Ken Benne.

• THE CAREER CENTER SENT AN "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS" E-MAIL to alumni members of the Tiger Career Network (TCN) over the holidays. Stephanie Ford, director of career consulting, reports that they received 35 responses, which included a variety of job and internship leads from all over the country. She plans to provide students with an e-mail list of these opportunities. Visit the TCN.

• THE JANUARY 2002 LUTHERAN MAGAZINE INCLUDES AN ARTICLE on Wittenberg's SISTERCAMP. SISTERCAMP, co-founded by Barb Mackey, director of community programs, and Bob White, director of church relations, is a program to build leadership, self-esteem and spirituality with middle school girls. The camp will be offered this summer at Lake Luther Bible Camp in Angola, Ind. as a pilot program between Wittenberg and Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of the Indiana/Kentucky Synod of the ELCA. If SISTERCAMP proves to be effectively delivered in a church camp setting, it could become available throughout the United States, which would offer more girls the opportunity to benefit from the program. See the article and related features.

COLLEGE BOUND!, A NEW PROGRAM PRODUCED by the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE), debuts on DATV, Time Warner Cable channel 20 tonight at 7 p.m. The program offers a forum for member institutions to feature their faculty, academic programs and students as it introduces the higher education opportunities in the area. As a member of SOCHE, Wittenberg will have this resource available.

• A CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST AND AN OPEN RECEPTION HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED by the Provost Search Committee to provide all faculty and staff the opportunity to meet the first provost-candidate. See Highlights for times and locations.

• JAN. 18 AT 5 P.M. IS THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IN THE SMOKE-FREE POSTER CONTEST. The contest is open to all full- and part-time students, and $1,000 will be awarded to the creator(s) of the poster judged the first-place winner. The entries should be reflective of Wittenberg's smoke-free policy and may be submitted in any medium. For further information, call the Health Center at 327-7311.

• THE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. COMMEMORATIVE CONVOCATION, a Wittenberg Series event, will present "Martin Luther King's Vision: Implications for a Global Village" by the Hon. Charles Stith, on Monday, Jan. 21. Learn about the Organization for a New Equality, which Stith founded. Although all classes will be held, the day's class schedule will be altered so that all students and faculty may attend.

• THE OFFICE OF UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT INVITES THE WITTENBERG COMMUNITY to "Our Time to Shine," a gala celebration in honor of those who have made The Defining Moments Campaign the most successful campaign in Wittenberg history. Performances by Wittenberg talent will highlight the evening. Please join us on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m., in the Kuss Auditorium at 300 South Limestone St. A dessert reception will follow in the Davidson Grand Lobby. To request tickets for the performance, contact the Office of University Advancement, 327-7414.

• SOME PARKING HEADACHES SHOULD BECOME A THING OF THE PAST with the new parking lot on the corner of Fountain and Ward, which opened this week. Campus parking lots received mention in an editorial in the Springfield News-Sun, Jan. 6, for their landscape details.

• THE NEW BULLETIN BOARD IN THE LOBBY OF RECI IS THE BRAIN-CHILD of Rajean Snow, director of news services. The board will feature "Witt in the News." News clippings, published photographs and articles about the faculty, staff, students, alumni and the university will be showcased. Stop by often to read about colleagues and how the university is portrayed in print. If you are aware of news that is appropriate for display, please contact Rajean at 327-6115.
