• AN M & M INFORMAL RECITAL featuring Adam Davis '06, trumpet; Monical Neal '05, cello; Emily McClay '07, piano; Sarah Schick '06, flute; and singers Erika Popp '06, Roxanne MacLaughlin '06, and Keith Ward '07 will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 in 300 Krieg Hall.

• THE 19TH ANNUAL HONORS CONVOCATION will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 8 in Weaver Chapel. The convocation, held with faculty in full academic regalia, recognizes high achievement of students and faculty members in academic and co-curricular activities.

• THE WITTENBERG SYMPHONIC BAND, conducted by Jay Koupal, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8 in 100 Krieg Hall.

• THE WITTENBERG CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, conducted by Shirley Mullins, will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9 in 300 Krieg Hall.

• A SENIOR RECITAL will feature Brad Hall, organ and harpsichord, at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9 in Weaver Chapel. Hall was the winner of the Ruth and Paul Manz Organ Scholarship for 2004. Read more ...

• THE WITTENBERG CHAMBER SINGERS, conducted by Joyce Wendel, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10 in Weaver Chapel.

• A FACULTY MEMORIAL CONCERT will be performed by the Wittenberg Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17 in Weaver Chapel. The featured work is Gabriel Faure's Requiem, a masterpiece of the late 19th century. The choir will be assisted by Lee Merrill, soprano, and Basil Fett, baritone. Trudy Faber will accompany at the organ. Two faculty members will be remembered at this concert: Robert Howat (1933-2004) of the music faculty and Betty Beatty (1926-2004), acquisition librarian at Thomas Library and Acting Director of the library at the time of her retirement.

• WITTENBERG'S RELAY FOR LIFE will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8 and continue through Saturday, April 9.

• JOHN K. ROTH, pictured, 2004-2005 Ina Levine Invitational Scholar at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, Edward J. Sexton Professor of Philosophy at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Cal., and the director of its Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights, will speak on "Ethics During and After the Holocaust: A Christian Philosopher's View" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 in Kissell Auditorium, Koch Hall. Roth's visit is sponsored by the departments of religion and philosophy and the Faculty Endowment Fund Board.

• THE SPRINGFIELD EARLY TEACHER UPLIFT PROGRAM (SETUP) is a new scholarship program designed to attract minority Springfield students interested in entering the teaching profession. SETUP aims to offer four $2,500 renewable scholarships to Springfield high school students not well-represented at Wittenberg, and who are the first generation of their family to attend college. The program is a partnership between the district, Wittenberg, the university's Upward Bound program and the Springfield Association of Black Educators, with the financial support of Star Bank. Funding was secured by Rep. Dave Hobson through a grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education through the United States Department of Education.

• THE CHI OMEGA WING DINNER will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 14 at 2 W. Ferncliff Place.

PICNIC by William Inge will be the final mainstage play of the semester. Visiting Professional Guest Director David Chrzanowski stages the classic love story set in the midwest in the 1950s. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17 in Chakeres Memorial Theatre. Tickets will be $4.

• THE ASPIRE GRANT AWARDS will be presented by the teaching associates of the Springfield Wittenberg Teacher Institute at 4 p.m. Friday, April 15, 105 Shouvlin Center. The Aspire Grant is a non-competitive award that goes yearly to outstanding teachers who have demonstrated that they care for the whole student.

• THE UNITY MARCH will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 as the march begins at Wally Witt on Alumni Way and moves through the City of Springfield before returning to campus. Read more ...

• AN ALL-CAMPUS "MOCKTAIL" PARTY, sponsored by Greek Life will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 14 in the CDR. Greek Life and Residence Life are hosting the event for Alcohol Awareness Month and plans include a "Best Recipe" contest, lots of music and entertainment by Pocket Lint.

• THE FOURTH ANNUAL CELEBRATE SERVICE, hosted by the Office of Community Service, will be held from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Wittenberg students, faculty and staff will travel to service sites and participate in an activity with youth at each site to teach the youth the importance of service and helping others within the community. Following this activity, the volunteers will participate with the youth to complete a project on each site. A celebration on Stoughton Lawn will follow.

• BALLROOM DANCING HAS FOUND A HOME ON CAMPUS. Lessons have been scheduled, and the next dance will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 16 in the HPER Center. Admission $10. Cha-Cha and Rumba classes will begin at 7 p.m. Cost $3. Additional classes for Waltz and East Coast Swing will be held beginning Tuesday, April 12. Call Brenda Baume at 327-6469 for details.
