• SACHIKO TANKEI, speech communication, Southern Illinois University, will perform insights "On Becoming Japerican" drawn from her years adjusting to America, readjusting to Japan, adjusting to America and readjusting to Japan at 4 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Bayley Auditorium, Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. A Q & A session will follow the performance.

• THE ASPIRE GRANT AWARDS will be presented by the teaching associates of the Springfield Wittenberg Teacher Institute at 4 p.m. Friday, April 15, 105 Shouvlin Center. The Aspire Grant is a non-competitive award that goes yearly to outstanding teachers who have demonstrated that they care for the whole student.

PICNIC by William Inge will continue through the weekend with performances at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 15-16, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre. Tickets will be $4. Visiting Professional Guest Director David Chrzanowski stages the classic love story set in the midwest in the 1950s. Read more ...

• BENJAMIN PRINCE DAY, an annual event that brings members of the Benjamin Prince Society (BPS) and special guests to campus to share first-hand in "What's Up On Campus," will be held Saturday, April 16. BPS members collectively contribute more than 50 percent of The Wittenberg Fund. Their gifts significantly help to bridge the gap between tuition, endowment income, church apportionment and the actual cost of a Wittenberg education.

• AN INTERFAITH HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held during Weekday Chapel at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, in Weaver Chapel.

• INTERIM PRESIDENT BILL STEINBRINK '64 will host the final staff coffee of the academic year at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the CDR, Benham-Pence Student Center.

• MUSIC AT WITTENBERG presents the Wittenberg Handbell Choir and Wittenberg Singers, Trudy Faber and Carol J. Todd, conductors, 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in Weaver Chapel. All Music at Wittenberg events are free and open to the public. Read more ...

• A FACULTY MEMORIAL CONCERT will be performed by the Wittenberg Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in Weaver Chapel. The featured work is Gabriel Faure's Requiem, a masterpiece of the late 19th century. The choir will be assisted by Lee Merrill, soprano, Basil Fett, baritone, and Trudy Faber, organ. Two faculty members will be remembered at this concert: Robert Howat (1933-2004) of the music faculty and Betty Beatty (1926-2004), acquisition librarian at Thomas Library and acting director of the library at the time of her retirement.

• WITTENBERG'S ANNUAL EMPTY BOWLS EVENT will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 18, in 105 Shouvlin Center. The community event is made possible through the efforts of Wittenberg ceramic students who throw and glaze the bowls, food donations from several sponsors, and soup prepared by Dining Services. Cost of bowl and dinner is $10 per person. Wittenberg Empty Bowls T-shirts will be available for $12 each. Proceeds go to the Second Harvest Food Bank to help feed the hungry in Springfield. Last year the event raised more than $5,600.

• THE WITTENBERG FLUTE CHOIR AND CHAMBER ENSEMBLES, Lori Akins and Richard York, directors, will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, in 300 Krieg Hall.

• THE OFFICE OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT is participating in an audio conference titled "Alcohol, Drugs and Transitional Issues for College Bound High School Students" at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the Li Room, Benham-Pence Student Center. • GAMMA PHI BETA SORORITY will hold its seventh annual Spaghetti Dinner on Tuesday, April 26, at 627 Woodlawn Ave. Seating times are 5, 5:30, 6 and 6:30 p.m., and tickets are $5. Beginning Tuesday, April 19, tickets can be purchased during lunch and dinner at the Benham-Pence Student Center, and at the door during the event. Proceeds will go to Camp Joy in Cincinnati.

• THE WITTENBERG GARDEN CLUB will hold its April Brown Bag Lunch at noon Wednesday, April 20, in the Alumni Room, Benham-Pence Student Center. Artimus Keiffer, assistant professor of geography, will present a program on "Yard Art." Fee $2.

• A STUDENT RECITAL will feature Adam Davis '06, trumpet,and Todd Collinsworth '06, tuba, with Diain Slagle, piano, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 300 Krieg Hall.

• A GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY for the new residence hall will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Join Dean of Students Carolyn Perkins, members of the Student Senate and other administrators and students at the building site on Alumni Way to share the moment as Wittenberg students break ground for the first new residence hall in 40 years. • A FACULTY ARTIST CONCERT, Chamber Trio-Plus One, featuring Lesa DeBorde violin, Richard York, clarinet, Daniel Kazez, violoncello, and Christopher Durrenberger, piano, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in 300 Krieg Hall.

• IMANI GOSPEL CHOIR will present the Fourth Annual Gospel Fest at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the HPER Center. The event is free and open to the public.

• GABRIELI FESTIVAL XXIV, Wittenberg Brass Choir Invitational, Dan Zehringer, director, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in Weaver Chapel.

• A STUDENT RECITAL featuring Neal Hayes '06, organ, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in Weaver Chapel.

• A FACULTY RETIREMENT RECEPTION will be hosted by Provost Ken Bladh beginning at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Hobson Atrium and Bayley Auditorium, Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. J. Ann Cothran, professor of languages, Erhard O. Eimer, professor of psychology, and Nelson E. Sartoris, professor of chemistry will be honored.

• THE SENIOR AND FACULTY DANCE CONCERT will be held at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 29-30, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre. Admission $4. The concert will be the final department of theatre and dance production of the academic year.

• WITTFEST will be held from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in Myers Hollow. Wittenberg Faculty Rock Ensemble and Entourage (Witt FREE); Just Eve, the all-female a cappella group; Wittmen Crew, the all-male a cappella group; and the winners of January's Battle of the Bands will provide entertainment. The headliner, hip hop group Nappy Roots, will take the stage at 9:45 p.m. The day's events include the WittFest Carnival, Greek chefs' BBQ Cookoff and games. In case of rain, the festivities will move into the old gym.

• THE SIXTH ANNUAL WITTENBERG TRIATHLON is scheduled for Saturday, April 30. The event will be staged from the HPER Center. Read more ...
