DESPERADO ARTIMUS KEIFFER, assistant professor of geography, was picked up by a volunteer fire department "deputy" on May 18, and taken to the Texas Roadhouse where he was incarcerated during the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Lock-Up. In about an hour, Keiffer made phone calls and raised approximately $250 in pledges for MDA to make bail.

FOURTEEN STUDENTS will spend three weeks in Paris and its environs June 6-26 exploring the history and culture of the Middle Ages. The summer field study titled "Fact and Fiction in Medieval France" combines French and history.
ELEVEN STUDENTS will participate in the New Hampshire - Meredith Municipal Internship field study May 30-July 29. Placed as unpaid interns, the students will complete one or more projects during their stay.
SIX STUDENTS have traveled to Beaufort, N.C., to participate in the Marine World/Extended Field Studies at Duke Marine Lab through June 17. The program provides non-majors with an appreciation for the general processes of biology in a marine context.
THIRTY-FIVE STUDENTS are in Antigua, Guatemala, for intensive language study, supplemented by work in Mayan culture. Instruction is provided by the Ixchel Spanish School with Wittenberg faculty supervision and will continue through June 19.
TWENTY-NINE STUDENTS have gone to Lesotho, Africa, for summer field study. The program includes both academic study and work with Habitat for Humanity in the capital city of Maseru. The group will return to campus June 15.
SUMMER SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES have been announced by the Community Service Office. Students must contact the Community Service Office prior to participating in any of these opportunities if they are interested in using them for their community service requirement.
