WITTENBERG 'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM is participating in the NCAA quarterfinals Saturday, Nov. 20, at the University of La Verne in California.

AN UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE has been posted on the Presidential Search Web site.

INTERNSHIPS, the new Wittenberg Web site designed to provide useful information to students, faculty and internship site supervisors, is up and running.

• THE INTERNATIONAL FILM SERIES presents Vukovar, directed by Boro Draskovic, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, Bayley Auditorium, Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. In 1991 Vukovar was a sleepy Croatian town of about 50,000 people just across the Danube river from Serbia. It became a bloody battleground in the wars that tore apart the multi-ethnic state of Yugoslavia. The film tells its story through the marriage of Anna, a Croat, and Toma, a Serb, which gradually disintegrates under the pressure of increasing ethnic tension. Joe O'Connor, professor of history will lead a discussion following the film.

• "FEAR AND ENCOURAGEMENT" is the title of the final Bible study series of the semester. The series meets at 5:15 p.m. each Tuesday, in the chapel activity room. Join speakers include Bob White, director of church relations, on Nov. 23; Karen Obee '06, on Nov. 30; and Jessica King '06, on Dec. 7.

• THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY begins for students as residence halls close at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24. University offices will be closed Thursday-Friday, Nov. 25-26. Residence halls will reopen at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28.

• STUDENT DIRECTED ONE-ACT PLAYS will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 4, in Blair Hall Theatre, and at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre.

• THE ANNUAL CAMPUS TREE LIGHTING will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3. Wittman Crew and Just Eve, Wittenberg's men's and women's a capella ensembles, will provide entertainment.

• LESSONS AND CAROLS FOR ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS, a Wittenberg Series event, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in Weaver Chapel. Special music by Wittenberg music ensembles will begin at 7:30 p.m.

• MUSIC AT WITTENBERG offers a General Student Recital at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Weaver Chapel. A Holiday Concert featuring the Wittenberg Symphonic Band and Wittenberg Chamber Singers, Tom Kennedy and Joyce Wendel, conductors, performing at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, Weaver Chapel.

• IMANI GOSPEL CHOIR will hold its Annual Winter Concert at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 300 Krieg Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

BLAIR UFER '05 AND CARRIE HAPP '05, were named North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.

• JENNIFER GAREISS, director of catering, and her staff prepared for and served 158 faculty and staff members at the annual Thanksgiving Buffet on Nov. 17.

THE SMITH ACT, a new federal law, provides support for youth suicide early intervention and prevention programs, technical assistance centers for suicide prevention, and mental and behavioral services on campuses.

clone PEER MENTORS David Wilson '05, Sarah Myers '05, Steve Doring '05, Jessica Dennis '05, Jonathan Stewart '06, Larry Yarnelle '06, Janet Barrows '05, Emily McClay '07 and Arnie Aurellano '05 shared information about their roles at the WittSems faculty lunch on Nov. 11.

WITTENBERG'S MOCK TRIAL ASSOCIATION TEAM competed in a four-round mock trial invitation tournament Nov. 5-7, in Cleveland, Ohio.

tools SEVERAL WITTENBERG STUDENTS AND STAFF particpated in a Habitat for Humanity shed-build and raffle Nov. 6 at Lowe's and Wal-Mart's parking lots. Approximately $2,000 was raised, and a number of applications for homes were submitted for future Springfield houses.

• THE DELTA TAU DELTA raised more than $350 for the Springfield City Schools at its "Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament" last weekend. The chapter works each week with the Kenton Ridge Elementary School students as tutors and classroom helpers.

•THE ALPHA DELTA PI raised $835 for the Ronald McDonald House in Dayton from its Parents Weekend 5 K walk and a car wash held at an earlier date. Seventy walkers participated in the 5 K walk.

• WITTENBERG'S FIRST ONLINE CHAT with alumni was hosted by the Career Center and the Office of Alumni Relations on Nov. 17.

• FREEMAN FOUNDATION TRAVEL GRANTS are available to support non-East Asian faculty, staff and administrators to experience the culture of East Asia in exchange for a commitment to broaden the understanding of East Asia on campus. Read more...
